These positions are located at the African Burial Ground, one of the Manhattan Sites, in the Division of Interpretation.
Major Duties:
Research, develop and present a wide variety of interpretive talks and programs about the park to audiences for members of the public (individuals, groups, students and youth).Serve as front line representative to greet customers and answer questions in person, by phone or during a presentation. Design marketing materials and interactive programming using social and web-based mediums. Work with volunteers and partners to advance the mission and goals of the National Park Service. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers and other staff.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
Physical Demands: The work is performed indoors and outdoors. Interpretive work is usually not strenuous, but the employee is required to stand and walk extensively, in some cases, over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, rescue equipment, or other items.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as high or low temperatures, insects, and in some cases, hazards of rough terrain.

Manhattan Sites is in the New York metropolitan area and includes Castle Clinton National Monument; Federal Hall National Memorial; Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site; General Grant National Memorial; Governors Island National Monument; Hamilton Grange National Memorial; Saint Paul's Church National Historic Site (Mount Vernon, New York); Stonewall National Monument and African Burial Ground National Monument. Living outside the New York area is a viable option with public transportation from Manhattan to many nearby Long Island and New Jersey towns and cities. Park housing is not available.
