-Responsible for investigating, measuring, and evaluating environmental conditions; reviews and analyzes scientific data provided by other specialists, including hydrologists, geologists, biologists, range management planners, and other land use planners to properly assess and report on the status of various environmental conditions that could affect human health and the environment.
-Consults closely with local Tribal Councils, State agencies, local government officials, Department of Defense officials, special interest groups, and members of the general public concerned with the proper protection and conservation of various ecosystems and communities.
-Conducts related scientific inventories and monitoring activities that support land use plans; conducts follow-up actions to releases and spills such as recovery and mitigation; coordinates research projects and prepares grants, contracts and/or agreements for hazardous materials cleanup, site remediation, and environmental assessments; may serve as Contracting Officers Representative (COR) or Project Inspector (PI) on these issues.
-Serves as a member of a Field/District Office interdisciplinary team dealing with issues concerning hazardous waste cleanup and environmental protection; correlates environmental data and adapts/applies computer modeling techniques to simulate changes in air, water, soil and other factors that may affect human health and the environment; provides the team with conclusive results of the environmental analysis for consideration.
-Writes and documents complex pre-acquisition assessments and recommends alternatives to avoid or mitigate impacts of any land use proposals that may adversely impact fragile ecological environments or human communities; responsible for independently conducting an All Appropriate Inquiry (AAI) Review to insure that the Bureau is not acquiring or disposing of contaminated lands; provides input to reports and Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) from the perspective of an Environmental Professional.
-Prepares long-range functional plans including the formulation of District guidelines, objectives and priorities, and the correlation and integration of hazardous waste management plans into overall land and resource management planning.
