Serves as coordinator for one or more recreation programs, including the Caves program. Coordinates with managers, planners, and resource specialists to identify recreation program needs on a local scale and develop long and short-term outdoor recreation plans to address needs. Coordinates recreation program activities with other Bureau of Land Management District and Field Offices, as well as private organizations, and the general public.
Monitors and inspects the operation of public use sites, permit programs, facilities, etc. Collaborates with others to develop new signage, brochures, displays, and other public information materials, and/or develop plans for new recreation facilities and structures. May conduct outreach to promote recreational opportunities on public land.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Outdoor Recreation Planner at the trainee level. Specialized experience includes; Experience that demonstrated the ability to plan and coordinate the use of land, water, and related resources for recreation and conservation purposes. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Ability to deal with people of differing backgrounds and behavioral patterns; Analysis and evaluation of outdoor recreation interests, habits, and needs of diversified groups, and the means for meeting those needs; Evaluation of land or water areas for their recreation and related potential use, such as wildlife reserve; Preparation or review of plans and programs for natural resource utilization and recreation area development; Solution of administrative, intergovernmental, socioeconomic, and other problems involved in providing adequate recreation opportunities while preserving, restoring, and enhancing the quality of the outdoor environment. -OR- Education: 1 full year of graduate education or Superior Academic Achievement (Major study -- outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as: sociology, forestry, landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, civil engineering, urban planning, or recreation.
