The position of Director, Office of Information Policy (OIP) reports to the Associate Attorney General. The incumbent is responsible for providing legal and policy advice and guidance to all federal agencies subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The Director also oversees agency compliance with the FOIA and manages the Department's own FOIA responsibilities.

Incumbent is responsible for providing expertise in the following: (a) personal development and coordination of legal and policy guidance and direction on FOIA for agencies government-wide; (b) personal development of FOIA reporting guidelines and assessment measures for agencies government-wide; (c) personal, high level instruction and guidance at FOIA training programs; (d) personal review and coordination of FOIA training programs; and (e) briefings for high-level government officials and representatives of foreign nations on FOIA matters of interest to them.
The Director has primary responsibility for leading government agencies in their administration of the FOIA. The incumbent provides legal and policy guidance to agencies, offers regularly scheduled and specialized training courses on all aspects of FOIA throughout the year, and offers confidential legal advice to agency personnel. In addition, the incumbent oversees agency compliance with the FOIA, developing guidelines for agency Annual FOIA Reports and Chief FOIA Officer Reports, and reviewing, summarizing and compiling assessments of each agency's progress in administering the law.
The Director is responsible for overseeing the Department of Justice's own compliance with the FOIA. The incumbent supervises the adjudication of administrative appeals from denials of access to records made by any of the Department's components. The Director also supervises the handling of initial requests for records of the Offices of the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, Associate Attorney General as well as other Senior Management Offices.
You must be a graduate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and be a member in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico bar.
