Anticipated entry on duty date is around May 1, 2019, but is dependent on candidate's academic calendar. Employment is for the summer of 2019 only, consisting of a minimum of 12 weeks up to a maximum of 6 months. However, an extension of the appointment to a period not-to-exceed one year may be possible, without further competition, when the student intern remains eligible for the program.
Pathways Internship positions provide for development and training. Assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training. These positions are geared towards individuals interested in the engineering and construction of infrastructure projects of varying types. Under supervision and with guidance from park engineering and project management staff, the incumbent will learn about and assist with performing the following duties:
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
You will NOT be considered under Pathways unless you provide supporting information from your school. Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester. Copies of documents from your school website are acceptable if they contain all relevant information as listed above. Letters from advisors or other school officials must be on school letterhead.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; and, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items.
Working Conditions: The work environment is comprised of the conventional office with periodic travel to project sites. The work involves moderate risk and exposure to moving equipment or machines, engine exhaust, associated high levels of noise, and outdoor weather conditions involving exposure to cold/hot, rain/sun, and a variety of other park conditions/features such as streams, rivers, or other bodies of water. Safety precautions may be required such as hard hats and steel toed boots.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
Seasonal Housing: Government housing is available for these positions and typical consist of traditional houses or apartments. Housing is typically shared, with the unit shared with other employees, interns, or volunteers. Housing units are typically modestly furnished, with variable cell coverage and no available wi-fi in the units. Pets (other than service animals) and overnight guests are not allowed; units are to house assigned employees only.
