The Safety Engineer is responsible for reviewing engineering specifications and plans for inclusion of safety engineering, occupational health requirements and design codes. Examines plans for new machinery or equipment, inspects and analyzes structures, tours plant to inspect fire as well as safety equipment, machinery and facilities to identify and correct potential hazards. The Safety Engineer governs conditions for safety clothing and devices, and installs or instructs installation of safety devices on machinery. This position is responsible for conducting and coordinating safety first aid training and educating workers about safety policies, laws and practices. Responsible for investigating accidents and preparing accident reports, conducts air quality tests and tracks and calculates environmental data for regulatory reporting. The Safety Engineer is responsible for attending safety meetings, conferences, and training.
Physical Demands: About half of the work is performed in an office setting and is sedentary in nature. The remainder of the employee's work time is devoted to field inspections and to observe and study work operations in an industrial work area.
Work Environment: The sedentary work is primarily indoors in a controlled atmosphere. The field work may require exposure to extreme weather conditions, potentially explosive gases, high voltage, chemical exposure, loud noise, dust, and grease. Safety equipment is required during such field work.
You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades. If selected for this position you will be required to provide an original transcript.

Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. Specialized Experience Requirements: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. Examples: Non-routine, professional engineering work in an engineering discipline directly related to the safety engineer position; ensuring program compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations; assessing safety risks and suggesting changes to reduce risks; developing long-term and short-term plans to improve an organization's safety posture, knowledge of OSHA standards or related safety and occupational health standards or codes;
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
