This is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 4 years.
Major Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Applying and refining various procedures for aseptic dicot-and monocotyledonous plant cultivation to produce quality plant tissue for cryoprocessing.
Keeping exact and detailed records of data obtained from experiments, proficiently summarizing and analyzing findings to improve laboratory work flow and increase quality of cryoprocessing.
Operating and maintaining a variety of highly specialized complex equipment, which must be calibrated and synchronized to achieve desired results.
Work Environment: The work involves regular and recurring moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working with irritant chemicals, sterilization of media, and tools, long hours with a microscope or with liquid nitrogen. The employee is required to use protective clothing such as coats, face shield, goggles, gloves.

For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting with a biological science research project related to research in plants; micropropagating, plant microscopy and tree grafting; and operating and modifying biological equipment and instruments in a laboratory.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees include Horticulture, Plant Science, or Biological Science.
OR
A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education directly related to the work of the position as stated above.
At the GS-08:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:
