This position is located in the Computational Science Research & Partnerships Division, Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research, and Office of Science (SC). The mission of the Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) is to deliver forefront computational and networking capabilities to mathematicians nationwide that will enable them to extend the frontiers of science. This is accomplished through discovery, development, and deployment of the computational and networking tools in applied mathematics, computer science, and highperformance networks which enable scientific researchers to analyze, model, simulate, and predict complex physical, chemical, and biological phenomena important to the accomplishment of the Department of Energy's missions.
The Division is responsible for funding and administering fundamental research programs in applied mathematics, computer science, networking, and advanced scientific computing software tools, and computational partnerships with other SC offices and with other DOE elements that utilize tera- to peta-scale computing resources for modeling and simulating complex scientific and engineering problems across the entire civilian scope of DOE.

For the GS-1520, Mathematician, you must possess the following Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
