Help

You will:

- Maintain Division/Office Manager's calendar and schedule appointments as required.

- Prepare outgoing and handle incoming correspondence, reports, studies, etc.

- Represent the interests of the office by serving as the point of contact for coordinating services and maintaining office supplies.

- Use office automation and web-based systems for administrative support, travel arrangelments, and record keeping.

- Provide training and leadership to Division/Office staff on administrative practices.

This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.

You must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

Qualifications

You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.

We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:

To qualify for the GS-08 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined as experience screening requests for information and assembling required documents; screening and referring telephone calls, visitors and correspondence; maintaining supervisor's calendar, making travel arrangements and coordinating meetings.

Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Ability to manage support functions, such as controlled correspondence, travel arrangements and response to public inquiries; 2) Ability to advise Division/Office on protocol, practices, and procedures; 3) Skill in written communication; 4) Ability to work with administrative staff, and to elicit cooperation and encourage teamwork; 5) Skill in oral communication; 6) Ability to advise program on web-based travel and timekeeping systems; 7) Provide briefings and training on a variety of administrative topics; 8) Knowledge of administrative concepts, principles and practices of an organization.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
