About the Position: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) New England District is responsible for managing the Corps' civil works, military, hazardous waste remediation, and international and interagency support (IIS) program responsibilities throughout the six New England states. The District employs about 500 professional civilian employees plus military officers in key management positions. The Planning Division is a diverse organization housed within the New England District (NAE) Headquarters in Concord, MA. Members of the Planning Division have expertise in water resources planning, including plan formulation, environmental evaluation and restoration, cultural resources evaluation, economics, Civil Works Policy, and public involvement.
About the Surrounding Area: The District headquarters located in Concord, Massachusetts is situated approximately 18 miles northwest of Boston, the capital of the state. Concord has the feel of a suburb with much historical flair. Not far from Concord center is Minute Man National Historical Park where the American Revolutionary battle of Concord-Lexington took place in 1775. Recreational opportunities abound within a few hours drive which include beautiful coastlines, beaches, mountains, lakes, and many museums and historical sites. Concord is part of the Boston metropolitan area with an estimated population of 5 million. The area includes lots of opportunities to participate in various cultural activities, view championship professional sports teams, and take advantage of the numerous nationally recognized higher education institutions and health care facilities that reside in the area.
