Physical Demands: Employee must be in good health and be able to work effectively alone or in team situations. Indoor work involves sitting, standing, walking, the lifting and storage of equipment and supplies, climbing ladders, and operating both manual and light power equipment such as drills, saws, and hammers. Outdoor duties require moderate exertion in a variety of weather conditions, such as hiking over wet, muddy, or uneven terrain; and lifting heavy objects and equipment.
Work Environment: Indoor work is primarily performed at the interpretive center office. Office space, and most resources at the interpretive center is shared among employees. The interpretive center is air conditioned and heated. Work is also performed in a workroom and carpentry shop at a separate maintenance building equipped with basic carpentry tools and equipment, painting equipment, and storage areas. The site is not conveniently located closer than 5 miles to housing, restaurants, or shopping and employees must provide their own transportation. Basic lunch facilities include a refrigerator and microwave.

The incumbent of this position will work varying shifts, weekends, and some holidays.
Develops, designs and coordinates exhibits fabricated in-house or by contract, installs and maintains permanent and temporary exhibits for the information and education of public visitors and school groups to the site; researches designs, fabricates and/or procures scientific and historically accurate replicas to use in interpretive programs; works with other interpreters on development and production of graphics products for education and interpretation; cooperatively develops, procures, operates and maintains audio-visual systems of varying complexity for multi-media presentations and live programs; serves as an advisor and monitor on universal accessibility of exhibits, trails, etc.; utilizes suitable display techniques for security and conservation of historical artifacts and scientific specimens; works with interpretive teams and partner groups; and works within an interpretive team on developing education and interpretive publications, projects, signs, and general interpretive planning related to goals and annual work plans.
