Positions are temporary with mixed work schedules based on student's schedule and the needs of the agency. Work may be part-time or full-time.
Positions are expected to start mid-May and end in mid-August.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Major Duties:
The primary duties of the Student Trainee/Park Guide positions are giving talks, answering questions, guiding small groups and providing services to visitors. Employees present limited and repetitive pre-established talks. They orient hikers to conditions and equipment needs, staff information desk in a visitor center and provide information on a variety of subjects and interpret park values for visitors with varying interests and backgrounds. Guides small parties (up to 20 people) on short walks. Assists with special events, curriculum-based education program, and non-personal interpretation projects including website and social media.
You must qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
You will NOT be considered under Pathways unless you provide supporting information from your school. Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester. Copies of documents from your school website are acceptable if they contain all relevant information as listed above. Letters from advisors or other school officials must be on school letterhead.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Agreement which specifies the conditions of your employment as we've indicated in this job announcement. You must continue to meet the Pathways Program requirements throughout the duration of your appointment. To verify that you do, we will require proof of your continued enrollment and good standing each semester or grading period throughout your internship. Failure to do so will result in termination of your internship and employment.
Physical Demands: The work requires standing for long periods of time, walking for long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, ·occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions.

Pecos National Historical Park is located 2 miles south of the village of Pecos, New Mexico on State Highway 63, four miles north of interstate 25. Pecos NHP is 25 miles east of Santa Fe and 44 miles to the west of Las Vegas, New Mexico. The multi-cultural resource of the park are enclosed in a predominately pinon/juniper woodland plant community with elevation from 6900 to 7400 feet. Precipitation averages 7 to 10 inches per year. Snowfall averages 12 to 16 inches in the winter. Average maximum winter temperature is 40 degrees. Average maximum summer temperature is 80 degrees.
