This position is part of the Ludington Biological Station or the Marquette Biological Station. As a Biological Science Technician (Fisheries) in a permanent full-time career-seasonal appointment with the Sea Lamprey Control program, you will be responsible for conducting sea lamprey control activities at the Marquette Biological Station, Marquette, Michigan, or Ludington Biological Station, Manistee, Michigan. The primary focus of the position is technical support to implement lampricide control, assess non-target effects of sea lamprey control, trap and assess abundance of adult sea lampreys, and assess abundance of larval sea lampreys to guide control efforts.
The incumbent will be in work/pay status for a specified time period each year and will be placed in non-work/non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Extensive overnight travel (20 or more nights per month) is required during an April to October field season.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: You must meet medical standards to assure the ability to perform field work safely. New employees must pass a pre-employment medical examination, and the incumbent will require continued medical clearance through periodic medical examination. Also, the incumbent will be subject to exposure specific medical surveillance testing before and after field seasons.
Retention is subject to satisfactory completion of a physical capability test immediately after entering on duty. The physical capability test will simulate the lifting, carrying, and emptying of containers of lampricide (TFM, 50lbs). Failure to satisfactorily complete this physical capability test may result in the incumbent being terminated from his/her employment with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
DRIVER'S LICENSE: You must possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times
during your tenure.
