As a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, you will make adjustments, remove, replace, rebuild, and overhaul and modify diesel and gasoline engines or components such as turbos, injection fuel pumps, carburetors, generators, alternator heads and other related parts. You will perform such repair operations as troubleshooting various mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic controls and other non-mechanical systems. You will perform minor arc and acetylene welding, brazing, and cutting in repairing metal vehicle parts. In addition, you will be responsible for analyzing malfunctions and determines extent of repairs necessary by visual and auditory exam and by the use of test equipment. Also, you will utilize equipment such as engine analyzers, vacuum and fuel pump testers, ignition timers, tachometers, and volt meters.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you
must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written
application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and
abilities to successfully perform the work of the position without more than
normal supervision.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the
screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on
all the job elements listed below.
Job Elements: In addition to the screen out element, applicants will be

1. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
2. Knowledge of Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
3. Use of Measuring Instruments

5. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
6. Ability to Troubleshoot
Physical effort: Will work in awkward and strained positions that require frequent bending, stretching and standing. Will also lift items weighing up to 40 pounds and possibly heavier items with the assistance of other workers.
Working Conditions: Works both in the maintenance shop and outside in all types of weather conditions. While inside, employee is exposed to irritation from dust, heat, fumes, oil and grease. Subject to cuts, bruises, burns, and abrasions. Must wear safety shoes, protective eye wear, hearing protection, and cold weather gear as necessary.
