The incumbents serves as the Editor and Team Leader for the Real Time News Desk, located in the Voice of American News Center. He/she is responsible for reviewing and evaluating news sources and developments for timely news coverage of stories relevant to VOA's audience and platforms including online, social media and broadcast. Stories are unique, comprehensive, and have global or regional appeal. Incumbent leads a team of editors, home page editors, social media editors, video producers, graphics artists, writers, and live bloggers. Coverage is timely and comprehensive, response to breaking news fast and accurate.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
-Ensures that the organization's strategy and mission are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work assignments.
-Leads the Real Times News Desk hub, writers, editors, live bloggers, social media editors, homepage editors, video editors, to distribute and balance work assignments, makes adjustments to meet headlines.
-Resolves simple, informal, complaints of employees and refer others, such as formal grievances and appeals, to the supervisor or appropriate management official.
-Reviews and evaluates news sources and developments to identify items for news coverage and updates. Communicates with other editors, writers, correspondents, production staff, home page editors, and social media staff to ensure comprehensive news coverage and timely updates.
-Approves or does final edits on major stories to ensure copy is timely, comprehensive and accurate; determines and assigns necessary revisions; reviews top stories for accuracy and completeness
-Oversees web-formatting and production details to ensure the finished story is properly inter-linked with related content; original photos; activation of reader comments; and social media lineup. Monitors traffic/reader reaction to finished piece.

This position may require working nights, weekends, and holidays.
