Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary, requiring long periods of sitting in one position, intense concentration, and working for several hours at a time. The incumbent at the GS-09 level implements analytical techniques needed to solves various procedural and factual geospatial and GIS issues, digitizes geographic information by translating raw land-based data into code, analyzes cumulative impacts of frequently measured environmental factors and conducts 3/D spatial analysis and geospatial modeling, carry out geospatial databases and implements quality control for geospatial data projects, provides user support and troubleshooting assistance for problems related to GIS hardware and application software, collaborates with a diverse group of local resources specialists, planners, and managers to coordinate and implement local GIS activities, coordinates with managers, resources specialist/technicians and IT staff to schedule geospatial hardware and software processing needs and implements required upgrades, promotes an integrated training program to teach basic skills in geospatial software, data acquisition, and retrieval and analysis.
The incumbent at the GS-11 level defines data need parameters for specific geospatial projects, implements advanced analytical techniques necessary to solve complex geospatial and GIS issues, calculates cumulative impacts of various environmental factors (i.e threatened and endangered species), conducts 3D/spatial analysis and geospatial modeling to measure and predict various environmental impacts, designs, develops and manages geospatial databases, develops quality control and assurance guidelines for projects, represents the local office manager when working with other internal and external organizations, recommends changes GIS procedures and methods.
For GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-07 in the federal service, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related.
For GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 in the federal service, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related
