Providing assistance to the Assistant Commissioner and other management officials in planning, directing, and coordinating congressional liaison activities;Maintaining an effective working relationship with other key program officials to remain thoroughly conversant with operational needs of the programs and problems of a politically sensitive nature, areas of special or urgent congressional interest and any developments or problems of unusual magnitude;Performing supervisory duties over a staff engaged in congressional liaison activities;Developing and maintaining liaison with Members of Congress, congressional committee staffs, other federal agencies and outside organizations to identify opportunities to increase effectiveness of agency and agency-related departmental programs and policies; andCoordinating the agency's official response to congressional inquiries and requests from members of Congress.

You qualify for the GS-14 level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent performing duties such as:
Analyzing federal legislative matters including planning, coordinating, and implementing federal programs and activities;Preparing or coordinating the preparation of reports, statistical backup and other information concerning congressional activities for a federal, state or local government agency; andConducting special briefings for congressional leaders, congressional committees and their staffs and individual congressmen concerning matters, as necessary, in order to promote favorable consideration of legislative needs.
Background Investigation: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country and integrity. During the screening and/or background investigation process, you will be asked questions regarding any felony criminal convictions or current felony charges, the use of illegal drugs (i.e., marijuana, cocaine, heroin, LSD, methamphetamines, ecstasy) and the use of non-prescribed controlled substances including any experimentation, possession, sale, receipt, manufacture, cultivation, production, transfer, shipping, trafficking, or distribution of controlled substances.

Bargaining Unit: This position is not covered under the bargaining unit.
Drug Testing Requirements: This is a drug testing designated position. You must complete and pass a drug test as a condition of employment. Employees are subject to drug testing in compliance with the Agency's Drug-Free Workplace Program.
Probationary Period: All employees new to the Federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his / her initial permanent Federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
