This position is located in the Office of Engineering and Maintenance, Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, Massena, NY. Massena is one of the most northern geographical towns in New York State and is located on the St. Lawrence River bordering Canada. In less than 2 hours you can travel to Montreal, Quebec or Ottawa, Ontario.
This position requires a State issued Class A CDL and a valid Crane Operator Certificate of Competence. Proof of both requirements must be submitted with your application in order to be reviewed for eligibility. If not provided, your application will not be considered. You must have industrial and construction experience operating cranes up to and including 150 ton capacity.
You will serve as the Foreman of the Heavy Equipment Branch where you will be a working supervisor. You will be responsible for supervising the Branch employees and you will also serve as the technical authority for the operation and maintenance of all heavy and light equipment and vehicles, which includes performing the duties of the Gatelifter Coordinator and Operator. As Gatelifter Coordinator you will direct the work of the Gatelifter during moving and lifting operations. On occasion, you may supervise the work of employees from other Divisions.

ADDITONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work includes regular visits to project/work sites which require walking, stooping, standing, climbing, etc. and involve the use of ladders, scaffolding, manbaskets, boats, etc. for gaining access to some of the sites.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Assignments may require moderate physical exertion requiring agility, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, and entering cramped compartments. Works both inside and outside. When inside, may be exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise which is difficult to talk above. When outside, may sometimes work in bad weather, in mud and snow, and in wet and icy areas. When working inside and outside, may be exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground. May be exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, safety-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may need to be worn or used for long periods.
