This position is located in the Center of Urban Ecology at the National Capital Region (NCR) in Washington, D.C.
The incumbent serves as the Biological Science Technician and is responsible to perform a wide variety of interrelated on nonstandard biological science technical support, such as assignments in one or more areas in the following programs; wildlife, fisheries and/or plants.
This appointment is not to exceed 1040 hours in a twelve month period, although position may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. This position is covered under a rehire authority. At management's discretion, the incumbent may retain non competitive rehire/extension eligibility to the same position, in the same location, with the same title and grade as long as 1040 hours are not exceeded in a service year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires physical exertion such as regular and recurring walking, hiking, or climbing over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending; crouching; stooping, lifting or reaching to observe, collect or record field data; or in some situations the work may require physical exertion.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office or outdoors. Work performed involves regular and recurring exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, poisonous plants, biting insects, and wild animals.

Minimum Qualifications for the GS-05 grade level
Specialized experience: Must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 grade level which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes research activity or control program work; nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment; work in a field where weather, environment, and activity records were kept in accordance with established protocols. OR
Education: Successful completion of a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. OR
A combination of education and specialized experience as described above.
