ERS is seeking qualified students to participate in the 2017 Summer Pathways Internship Program. This temporary appointment is expected to begin in May and end no later than September 30, 2017. Internships are open to individuals who have been accepted for enrollment or who are enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) from a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis. Students seeking degrees in Economics are highly desired.
These positions are temporary; however, an extension of an appointment may be possible without further competition in 1 year increments for up to 8 years in total, as long as you continue to meet the program eligibility requirements and at management’s discretion

Major Duties:
Interns who are assigned to a GS-0199 Student Trainee (Economics) position will assist higher-grade economists to design, develop, write-up, and publish a wide variety of economic and policy-relevant topics for informational and external publication. Duties require a general knowledge of the basic concepts and principles of economics and are illustrated by performance of any combination of the following:
Individuals who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a qualifying educational institution of a full or half-time basis.
Students must be at least 16 years of age and meet Federal, State and Local laws governing the employment of minors.
If you are newly hired, the documentation you present for purposes of completing the Department Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 on your entry-on-duty date will be verified through the DHS "E-VERIFY" system. Federal law requires the use of E-VERIFY to confirm the employment eligibility of all new hires. Under this system, the new hire is required to resolve any identified discrepancies as a condition of continued employment.
Must be a U.S. citizen prior to non-competitive conversion to a term or permanent position.
A signed participant agreement is required for employment under Pathways.

GS-07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision (S.A.A.)* after completion of a bachelors degree. (A degree in Economics is desired).
GS-09: Completion of 2 academic years of graduate level education, or a masters or equivalent graduate degree. (A degree in Economics is desired).
*Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.): Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. S.A.A. is based on (1) Class Standing - applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class, based on completed courses; or (2) Grade-Point Average - applicants must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (3) Election to membership in a National Honor Society - membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision.
