This staff member is employed in the Nutrition & Food Service Department. This position combines the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator with those of a Food Service Worker. In addition to performing the tasks of delivering food to various locations throughout campus, this position also performs various food production and cleaning tasks. The incumbent works under the direction of the Food Service Worker Supervisors.
Motor Vehicle Operator: This staff member is employed in the Nutrition & Food Service Department. This position combines the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator with those of a Food Service Worker. In addition to performing the tasks of delivering food to various locations throughout campus, this position also performs various food production and cleaning tasks. The incumbent works under the direction of the Food Service Worker Supervisors.
The Motor Vehicle Operator is responsible for performing maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, re-fueling and cleaning of the vehicle. A two-way radio to may be utilized to receive and transmit messages. The incumbent is also responsible for completing and maintaining competencies on the use/maintenance of the vehicle and lift gate.
Food Service Worker: The incumbent is expected to do tasks with many steps or a sequence of tasks in the food production and food service areas. These include preparation and portioning of foods, mixing liquids to prescribed thickness, following restricted diet guidelines in the assembly of meals and nourishments, tray delivery, supplying and rotating stock, dishwashing and general cleaning.
Although established procedures are followed, continuous attention is required in the application of diet restrictions, proper food handling techniques, use of chemicals and the safe operation of food service equipment.
The Food Service Worker prepares uncooked items such as sandwiches, salads, spreads and salad dressings. Beverages are also prepared according to diet guidelines for therapeutic consistency. In addition, this position provides assistance to cooks by weighing, measuring and assembling ingredients according to standardized recipes. The incumbent places correct food items on hospital trays by accurately reading menus and diet cards within allotted time frames. This position is responsible for the assembly and disassembly of tray line serving stations, including preparation of equipment for hot and cold items and sanitizing of surfaces when meal service is completed. Provides assistance to cooks in food preparation area by weighing, measuring and assembling ingredients according to standardized recipes.
The Food Service worker also interacts with Veterans, delivering foods to inpatient wards and directly into patient rooms. Timely service is required to maintain food quality and temperature. The incumbent observes food safety, sanitation, and HIPPA guidelines when transporting food items. This employee properly identifies patients utilizing 2 identifiers prior to distributing trays.
Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am - 6:30 pm.
