This position is located at the Gym and Fitness Center which is part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base New Orleans. Incumbent serves as a Fitness instructor, personal trainer or group fitness instructor and may perform one or a combination of the following functions within the Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Support Program Branch: Group Exercise, Command Fitness Leader (CFL), Outreach, and Fitness Enhancement Program (FEP) Outreach.

Assists in coordinating and conducting base wide PRT training.
Works in close contact with command representatives to identify specific areas of need.
Arranges classes and provides workshops that support the command PRT program.
Provides individualized fitness and nutrition training as required by individual commands.
Conducts an ongoing variety of group fitness classes, both in the Gymnasium and the Fitness Center.
Provides certified personal training and group exercise services to active duty military as outlined in the Navy's Physical Readiness Program instruction.
Assists with the instruction of the Command Fitness Leader course and fitness related general military training.
Designs individual fitness programs utilizing exercise physiology principles.
Attends workshops and seminars presented by the Fitness Coordinator as well as training offered outside the workplace to maintain certification and introduce new programs.
implements new training material into programs to promote the health and well-being of patrons.
Performs extra classes and appears in outside exhibitions to promote the fitness program which could result in night and weekend work.
Assists in the duties of front desk operations to include: operating cash register, signing in new members and input information into computer, unloading and stocking of new stock.
Assists in completing inventory on a monthly basis.
Assists Fitness Director and / or Coordinator with Navy Operational Fitness and Fueling Series (NOFFS), Mission Nutrition Command Fitness Leader Course and other CNIC Headquarters supports/endorsed programs.
Assists in the supervision and performs custodial duties to include mopping, vacuuming, cleaning of showers, sauna, dusting, etc, as required. Custodial duties include outside areas of facilities.
Required to do laundry.
Responsible for promotion of fitness programs, creating interest and maintaining sufficient class participation.
Enforces all rules and regulations of the activity, MWR, and higher authority elements.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

College degree in Health, Physical Fitness or Exercise Physiology preferred.
Must possess previous experience as aerobics/fitness instructor and have a current group fitness certification.
Ability to competently and independently carry out fitness programs through the proper application of principles, concepts and techniques of recreation to satisfy needs of the community to be served.
Skill in planning and carrying out an enhanced program in the recreation specialty area which meets the needs of the participating community.
Must be certified in CPR and First Aid certified within one month of employment.
Must be Personal Trainer certified by a NCCA agency within 6 months of employment.
Must be able to assess patron interests and needs. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Must be proficient in computing and various Microsoft Office programs.
Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain the following within 60 days of hire: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification, Automated External Defibrillator Certification, Blood-borne Pathogen Training, Navy Basic Fitness Certification.
