Supports inspectors and other staff with day-to-day operations by performing a mixture of routine, multiple, and
varying assignments under the limited direction of a Supervisory Hazardous Materials Aviation Safety Inspector (HM ASI) or similar manager in AXH. May assist with the planning and completion of certification, surveillance, investigation, stakeholder engagement, policy development, systems and analytical services, and program administration duties. This work requires assisting with planning logistics, performing research, and data reporting.
Applies experience and advanced knowledge to plan and perform assignments for the Office of Security and Hazardous Materials Safety Organization (ASH) mission. Completes assignments and assists with developing plans and techniques to improve hazardous materials safety programs, policies, and procedures.
Assists with conducting hazardous materials compliance inspections, investigations, stakeholder engagement and/or other program related support activities involving regulated parties that introduce or transport hazardous materials into air transportation. Assists with investigating incidents, discrepancies, and regulatory compliance violations related to hazardous material air transportation and conduct research on technical issues.
Under the direction of a Supervisory Hazardous Materials Safety Inspector, the technician supports AXH personnel in researching air carrier manuals, pre-inspection planning, technical research, analysis of previous inspection/investigation findings, data reporting, post inspection analysis, drafting correspondence, developing presentations, and other oversight-related activities.
Prepares written reports and findings and enters required data into automated systems, ensuring the quality and integrity of entered data. Receives assignments and guidance from a Supervisory Hazardous Materials Safety Inspector or similar AXH manager to complete work activities in accordance with AXH policies, procedures, and established deadlines under supervision.
Demonstrates considerable independence in planning time and coordinating as needed with managers, program/program managers, team leader, or more experienced employee to prioritize assignments and used assigned resources. Provides administrative support for day-to-day Branch operations. Utilizes FAA databases, tools, and internal processes to handle critical administrative support functions that may include processing correspondence, time and attendance reporting, tracking travel, reporting organizational unit milestones, monitoring training completion, and procuring/managing equipment. Work activities may support multiple projects/programs and contribute to the objectives of one or more organizational units.
Performs other duties as assigned.
