The maintenance worker performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of facilities/equipment including buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, utilities, irrigation systems, gas or diesel-powered equipment and components.
Incumbent monitors the preventive maintenance program to ensure compliance with all equipment service schedules; to include providing copies of all communications between vendors and outside services when needed. Coordinates with the Cemetery Foreman and Director to ensure that equipment is at a high state of readiness.
Based on continual monitoring activities, the incumbent evaluates, administers, and makes suggestions related to procurement of new equipment. Prepares technical correspondence for the Director's signature that complies with management and department policies, agency procedures on completeness, timeliness and format with background and supporting information attached.
Incumbent will maintain all cemetery facilities and irrigation systems and components in a safe and good working condition. Plans, schedules, and performs preventative maintenance on all cemetery facilities such as structural, plumbing, electrical, changing air conditioner filters, testing of safety and irrigation systems before the growing season.
Incumbent plans and carries out work assignments according to preventive maintenance schedules. Works with minimal supervision and is responsible for the technical aspects of the position. Renders reports and maintains records. When major deficiency occurs beyond the capabilities of the incumbent, he or she is responsible for informing the Foreman or Director for coordination and resolution of the problem. Acquires necessary repair quotes and submits requests for repairs.
Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.
