Supervises Maintenance, Interpretation and Resource stewardship in Badlands National Park. Supervises the Minuteman National Historic Site in the capacity of Superintendent for the NHS.
Provides leadership in the development of policies, standards and procedures which govern the professional conduct of work related to the implementation of programs in the functional areas of public use management, resource stewardship, education and interpretation, park maintenance and safety management.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.

This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.Physical Demands: The incumbent is occasionally required to work under unusual and stressful situations calling for physical stamina. emotional stability, and knowledgeable responses. Largely, however, the work is sedentary, but requiring walking, hiking, driving, riding, bending, sitting, and standing. Work may require walking over rough, uneven, rocky or hazardous terrain, and driving vehicles including 4-wheel drive.
Working Conditions: Work is primarily conducted in an office setting or in public meetings, but field visits are conducted under variable weather conditions. The rugged outdoor environment ranges from -30 degrees F in winter to 110 degrees in summer, with high winds and corresponding airborne particles. Work may occasionally bring the incumbent into exposure to rattlesnakes, biting insects, wild animals such as buffalo, and other outdoor hazards contributing to slips and falls.You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Grocery shopping, a service station, several churches, K-8 school, and a post office are in the friendly town of Interior (population 63), 2 miles from park headquarters. Shopping, medical and dental facilities, and schools K-12 are available in Wall, Kadoka, Philip, and Rapid City.
There is plenty of hiking, biking and wildlife viewing available right on our doorstep. The night skies are famous and folks travel for long distances to view them. The area has lots of seasonal activities such as winter skiing and summer camping for a few.
Surrounded by National Parks and State Parks: Mount Rushmore National Monument, Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, Jewel Cave National Monument, Wind Cave National Park, Devils Tower National Monument, Black Hills National Forest and Custer State Park, the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and the infamous Wall Drug are within hours of Badlands National Park.
