The major duties of the Public Affairs Specialist position include, but are not limited to, the following:
The ideal candidate will have a mix of public and private sector communications experience, particularly in conservation or outdoor recreation, issues and advocacy communications, political campaigns, or with a mission-driven organization. Agency experience is a plus as the position will function like a small boutique in-house agency with organization executives and national programs as clients.
We are looking for an exceptional writer with a strong knack for using storytelling to advance an organization's goals; someone who is comfortable briefing and staffing c-suite executives; has a proven track record delivering PR results across print, online, and broadcast media; and holds basic digital literacy with CMS platforms and SEO. A standout candidate will be a team player known for earning influence without authority; someone who is at ease with ambiguity and rapid change, can juggle many competing priorities at once, and maintains a positive attitude identifying creative solutions when faced with unexpected obstacles.
The employee will serve as one of a small cadre of senior public affairs specialists and focus on communicating national initiatives, advancing NPS priorities through integrated communication campaigns, and connecting public and stakeholders with NPS state and local assistance programs. This is a new position with incredible potential for the selectee to shape its function and impact.
