SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: In addition to compliance with national and local regulatory, policy, and accreditation requirements governing this health care system, this position encompasses the following responsibilities, in partnership with his/her Administrative Officer and the support of the section chiefs, and supervisors. The incumbent requires appropriate time mapping and resources to ensure they are empowered to meet expected proficiencies in administration, clinical practice, education, and research. The primary responsibilities of the PA(s) are but not limited to the following:
Administrative Duties:
i. Obligations/Responsibilities: Attending required staff meetings, including attendance at the quarterly critical care committee meetings, communicating up and down the chain of command and helping prepare heads-up and issue briefs related to adverse patient outcomes.
ii. Clinical Coverage, including indirect patient care: all aspects of consult maintenance and encounter completion, CPRS documentation requirements. Maintains involvement in matters concerning 2 productivity, relevant performance measures, Quality and Patient safety oversight, as well as process improvements (system redesigns). such as quality improvements with ICU IPEC quality metrics and assists in implementing other ICU quality improvement initiates and participates in clinical pertinence reviews (CPRs).
Clinical Duties: The incumbent is expected to remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field. The exact privileges and procedures for a provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. All practitioners must meet the following qualifications:
i. Patient Care: Practitioners are expected to provide patient care that is in alignment with VHA core values which provides the foundation for the professional promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.
ii. Specialty specific responsibilities: The PA(s) will perform assigned duties through collaboration with staff pulmonary and critical care physicians. The PA(s) may be assigned to the pulmonary service and integrated into the day-to-day operations including: ICU, inpatient pulmonary consult service, and pulmonary clinic. A physician collaborator within the pulmonary team will provide both clinical and logistic support to the PA(s). At any time during the tour of duty, the supervisory pulmonary physician for the team and/or the designated physician has overall authority for work assignments including assignment of transfers and consultations.

The Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Salisbury VA Health Care Center(HCS), in North Carolina is seeking a dynamic APP to serve in the ICU. The incumbent will also be involved in assisting with inpatient pulmonary consultations. There is also the possibility for outpatient plumonary work. Training and experience in critical care is preferred. The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine section unit reports the Section Chief of Pulmonary Medicine & the Service Chief of Medicine. A board-certified Physician Assistant (PA) functions with interdisciplinary staff consisting of physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, administrative and clerical staff. He/she is responsible & accountable for ensuring the provision of comprehensive medical services and complies with established policies within the Medicine Service, Pulmonary.
