Duties

Help
  • Train personnel in methods, techniques, and procedures of unit level flight instruction.
  • Establish work schedules and priorities for subordinates based on workload.
  • Plan, develop, and direct the flight operations and training activities for the Aviation Support Facility (ASF).
  • Coordinate with Aviation Support Facility (ASF) staff to ensure the availability of mission capable aircraft to support the mission.
  • Establish and evaluate performance standards for employees.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Helicopter Flight Instructor:
Possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates, and/or military rating, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the position. Flight hour information MUST in the body of the resume. Your application packet MUST include a copy of certificates/military ratings.

Flight hour requirements: Total flight time - 1500 hours; Pilot in Command - 250 hours; Night flying - 75 hours; Flying Time, Last 12 months - 100 hours; Instructor time - 500 hours (Helicopter Flight Instructor). Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes: piloting or co-piloting rotary wing aircraft; ground and flight instruction; in-flight evaluation; planning, analyzing, or administering agency aviation programs, where the work requires primarily the application of helicopter pilot knowledge and skills. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
