The incumbent serves as a professional historian responsible for administration and implementation programs including, but not limited to, the National Historic Landmarks (NHL) Program, Historic Surplus Property Program, National Historic Lighthouse Act Program, and Heritage Documentation Programs (i.e. HABS/HAER/HALS).

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).The experience equipped me with the knowledge, skills and ability to successfully perform the duties of this position, and include but is not limited to: evaluating historic properties using the national historic landmark criteria and/or national register or historic places criteria; providing guidance to members of the public and professional colleagues on the application of the secretary of interiors standards and preservation principals; making significant contributions as a consulting party in Section 106/110(f) consultations; developing plans for the inventory, evaluation, documentation, preservation, research, and interpretation of cultural resources; and/ or preparing project proposals, scopes of work, and task directives for the documentation, interpretation, planning, and management of cultural resources.

EDUCATION: Have at least three academic years of progressively higher level graduate study, a Ph.D., or equivalent graduate degree in directly-related fields such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled.

Equivalent Combination of Graduate Education and Specialized Experience: I have not completed one full year of specialized experience as described above, or the three years of graduate study, or Ph.D. degree in a field directly-related to the work of this position as shown in 1B above, but I have an equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described in 1A above (50% of the experience requirement), and 45 semester hours or 68 quarter hours of directly-related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education).
