Serves as a Health Communications Specialist, performing a variety of communications activities in order to accurately communicate significant findings related to food, dietary supplements, and cosmetic outbreaks.
Identifies information gaps/needs and opportunities; define and analyze target audiences; collaborate with staff and partners to formulate communication and marketing strategies.
Interprets and communicates findings to scientific audiences in order to support public health policy decisions and program development.
Reviews and analyzes outbreak investigation findings related to food, dietary supplements, and cosmetics in order to concisely and accurately communicate the significant observations.

Qualifications
The position of Health Communications Specialist falls under the 1001 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-12, you must meet the following:

Specialized Experience. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service that includes experience: applying communication theories, principles, and techniques to develop, implement, and evaluate communications plans/strategies used to inform the public about public health information or services; interpreting and communicating findings related to illness outbreaks, detection, responses, and investigations; preparing public health communication materials; and collaborating with external sources to formulate communication and marketing strategies.
