Duties

Help
  • Instruct on instrument flight planning; precision handling and maneuvering of the aircraft, and instrument flight using aircraft navigational instruments and systems.
  • Instruct on instrument approach and departure procedures, holding procedures, and use of instrument landing systems.
  • Review, revise, and develop training test and instructional material through evaluation of requirements.
  • Determine individual ability to perform duties as aviator/ instructor/examiner from a crew station with access to the aircraft controls and in accordance with Army Regulations (AR) 95-1 and specific air crew training module tasks.
  • Conduct crew briefings on mission, weather, flight route, performance data, flight control transfer, and crew duties; including emergency duties.
  • Evaluate comprehension, retention and application of procedures related to visual and instrument flight, tactical flight, helicopter gunnery, aircraft/weapons system operations, and limitations.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) you must report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position may require you to work planned and/or unscheduled overtime to meet work requirements.
  • The position requires the incumbent to be a Graduate of the US Army AH-64E Instructor Pilot Course or service equivalent, and US Army Rotary Wing Instrument Flight Examiner Course or service equivalent.
  • This position may require occasional travel for duty.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes conducting classes, workshops, or demonstrations to teach the principles, techniques, or methods of real-time aircraft flight simulation exercises; identifying student and training limitations; confirming students' understanding by providing performance checks and administering examinations; and developing course material for rotary wing aircraft. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as Aviation or Aerospace Science. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
