As a Librarian you will:
- Integrate digital library holdings into online cataloging systems such as the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) WorldCat and HORIZON ILS.
- Edit required CONTENTdm metadata to uploaded archive and post-production files according to policy.
- Harvest records using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) for inclusion in the online catalog.
- Utilize editing software, such as MarcEdit and Xslt, to modify digital library records.
- Coordinate digital library training for staff education requirements.
- Monitor scanned objects to verify digital library technical requirements are met.
- Apply contemporary metadata schemes to organize digitized library collections.
- Ensure compatibility of metadata with established formats and subject headings.
- Demonstrate digital library populating techniques to consortium members or contractors.
- Assist patrons with locating information in the library.
- Respond to patron inquiries and requirements regarding the use of electronic library resources.
- Assist with research project requests from library patrons.
- Troubleshoot patron access/use of digital library items.
- Coordinate technical support for the digital library with CONTENTdm to ensure digital library availability.
- Troubleshoot issues with computers, printers, and copiers for staff and patron usage.
- Resolve CONTENTdm upgrade issues to ensure digital library availability.

Individual Occupational Requirements: The Librarian occupation has specific educational requirements which apply to all positions:
Completion of one (1) full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree; (NOTE: You will need to upload a copy of your transcripts)
OR
A total of at least five (5) years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. Specialized experience requirement:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience at the GS -09 or equivalent grade/level which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) providing access to a library 's digitized collection utilizing contemporary metadata schemes for electronic and physical library holdings; (2) performing cataloging of digital objects using established standards; and (3) assisting patrons in utilizing library resources.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some, but not all of the experience and education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 36 hours (total semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
