Help

Examine and provide diagnosis and treatment of oral pains of pulpal and/or periraducular origin.
Perform vital pulp therapy, such as pulp capping and pulpotomy; nonsurgical treatment of root canal systems with or without periradicular pathosis of pulpal origin and the obturation of these root canal systems.
Perform selective surgical removal and repair procedures of pathologic tissues.
Perform surgical removal of tooth structure, such as root-end resection, bicuspidization and root resection.
Prescribe medication and conduct oral health counseling.
Responsible for the timely submission and accuracy of performance data, dental records, consultation requests and other dental records in approved information management system.

Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
A pre-placement medical examination is required.
This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
May include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
Moderate to heavy lifting up to 35 pounds is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Dentist (Endodontics):

Education: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Experience and/or Education Required:

A. Applicants must have completed a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.

OR

B. Applicants must have three years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12).

OR

C.Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than three years.

Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. For specialty dentistry positions, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist in Endodontics.

Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.

Experience that is highly preferred for this position:

Applicant to be proficient in the use of an operating microscope in diagnosis and treatment in Endodontics.
Applicant to be proficient in capture and interpretation of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging.
Applicant with clinical Endodontic care in the immediate past 5-7 years.
