Help

Serve as a Lead Police Officer and can supervise a shift of Police Officers and Security Guards in the absence of a Supervisory Police Officer.
Assign work requirements to subordinates including explanation of functions, goals, and desired objectives.
Initiate or participate in management reviews, improvement of work methods, and standard operating procedures.
Conduct preliminary and final short-term investigations of a broad range of alleged and actual crimes occurring solely within the local installation jurisdiction.
Conduct vigorous traffic and security patrols within the assigned jurisdictional area.
Responsible for traffic speed enforcement, traffic control procedures, planning and executing for traffic control for crowd gathering events, and stops, questions, detains, and issues traffic citations, as required.
Perform physical security inspections on a 24-hour basis on the installation by checking for breaches of security of both mission essential vulnerable areas and non-essential areas.
Conduct preliminary/follow-up investigations, and take extraordinary precautions in gathering and preserving evidence, questioning witnesses and principals, and preparing investigation reports.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
In accordance with 5 USC 7371, any law enforcement officer who is convicted of a felony shall be removed from employment as a law enforcement officer on the last day of the first applicable pay period following the conviction notice date.
This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
Must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
Must pass periodic medical examination (physical, emotional, and mental stability, etc.).
Must pass periodic physical agility test requirements.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
Must successfully graduate from DA Police Academy.
Must be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, and radar guns.
State certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations.
This position is designated as Key. For positions located within the Continental US (CONUS), the position cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the mission.
Incumbent must meet all other mandatory requirements of AR 190-56, "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program."
Incumbent must comply with Army Civilian Police dress and appearance requirements of AR 670-10, "Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia."
Training and proficiency in specialized weapons and unarmed self-defense will be required.

Qualifications

Position may be filled as a temporary promotion, temporary reassignment, or temporary change to lower grade NTE 12 months by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions, reassignments, or change to lower grades may be extended up to a maximum of five years, and may be made permanent without further competition.

Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 13 months, if a candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a range of law enforcement duties such as physical security; force protection functions; apprehending violators; access control; traffic law enforcement; participating in raids and searches to seize evidence; conducting preliminary and/or ongoing investigations of incidents; issuance of citations; subduing disorderly persons; and maintaining order for protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualifications requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

This position is obligated. This position is designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
