Summary

DCSA is responsible for delivery of investigative products and related services that help ensure that federal agencies have the information needed to make a security clearance or suitability decision as required by Executive Orders, rules and regulations. The incumbent serves as an Investigative Assistant (IA) in the Federal Investigative Program of DCSA, and is responsible for performing a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the program.

This position may be filled at either GG-07, GG-06 or GG-05 grade level, please indicate the grade for which you want to be considered. Incumbent may be advanced non-competitively to the established target grade upon meeting developmental benchmarks, performance requirements, and other requirements, as applicable established for the career program or specifically for the incumbent.

As a INVESTIGATIVE ASSISTANT you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Performs a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the program.
  • Conducts a variety of records checks which includes verifying identifying data and searching for information of a discrepant or derogatory nature.
  • Fosters good working relationships with individuals such as Federal, State and Commercial records custodians, records supervisors, and database administrators.
  • Prepares testimonies summarizing information found and stating pertinent facts.
  • Ensures timely processing of daily workload.
  • Assists in the completion of special projects.
  • Communicates orally to obtain information through surveys, interviews and research.
  • Communicates effectively in writing using correct grammar, spelling, punctuation to prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence.
  • Conducts a variety of record reviews and checks and preparing various reports.

Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized experience required for this position is:
Specialized experience at the GG-07 level is described as experience in collecting, organizing, planning, analyzing, and analytical research and evaluation of documents and reports to verify and identify data.

Specialized experience at the GG-06 level is described as experience with assisting in collecting, organizing, processing, analyzing, and providing information to gather and compile data and maintaining official records or files.

Specialized experience at the GG-05 level is described as experience with performing a variety of technical and administrative duties; experience with reviewing and preparing documents and reports; and customer service, data entry, and use of data systems/software.

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:
1. Manages and Organizes Information - Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods.

2. Communication - Written and oral communication techniques sufficient to develop and deliver briefings, project papers, status/staff reports and correspondence to managers to foster understanding and acceptance of findings and recommendations.

Education

If substituting education for experience:

  • To qualify at the GG-05 pay level: You must be a high school graduate with 60 to 89 semester hours of college credit.
  • To qualify at the GG-06 pay level: You must be a high school graduate with 90 or more semester hours of college credit.
  • To qualify at the GG-07 pay level: You must possess a bachelor's or equivalent degree.
Superior Academic Achievement does not apply to DCIPS positions.

DCSA, as a newly designated Defense Agency is undergoing a multi-year transformation that includes a significant expansion of predecessor agencies' authorities and responsibilities. Mission accretion and associated growth in personnel and resources requires deliberate coordination and planning across operations and support activities to achieve effective outcomes while simultaneously establishing and integrating new activities, initiatives and projects. The new organization will be comprised of nearly 13,000 government and contractor personnel operation throughout the United States and overseas supporting stakeholders across the federal government.
