This position serves as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at the Pine Ridge Service Unit, Pine Ridge, SD. The primary purpose is to perform advanced technical health care extender functions within the emergency medical arena in response to various accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness.

1. Performs technical health care extender functions by identifying and treating trauma/medical emergencies using advanced level medical techniques that will most effectively sustain the patient's life.
2. Performs a range of diagnostic support duties including taking vital signs, collecting routine specimens, setting out medical instruments and assist with examinations by positioning and draping patients.
3. Performs safety and maintenance inspection of minor repairs on emergency and patient transport vehicles and equipment; prepares appropriate transport documents; replaces supplies, and ensures sanitation and cleanliness of patient transport vehicles.
4. Communicates orally and in writing with medical and ancillary personnel using skills in emergency communication techniques and the operation of radio equipment.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

Security Clearance: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned.
This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
