This position is located in Smithsonian Institution's (SI) Smithsonian Facilities (SF). The incumbent reports to the Director, Smithsonian Gardens (SG). The incumbent serves as an associate entomologist, structural pest control, in the integrated pest management services program for all Smithsonian facilities in Washington, DC; Virginia, New York and Maryland which involves the implementation of a least-risk pest management for insects and commensal rodents.

Work requires physical exertion and exposure to extreme conditions for extended or repetitive periods activities as walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending at the waist, work may also include frequent lifting of moderately heavy items, of equipment that weigh less than 50 pounds.
Incumbent must attain appropriate state pesticide applicator certifications in EPA category 7 for General and Rodent pest control. Must pass an annual medical physical examination and respirator fit test to wear an air-purifying respirator while applying pesticides to Smithsonian property.
In addition to Basic Requirement below you must also have the following experience:
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as a registered structural pest control technician for health care, child care, zoo, museum or food services establishments performing services to prevent, control or eliminate pest infestations.
Or Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in entomology; or related discipline of the biological or physical sciences may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirements.
Or a Combination: Education and experience may be combined to meet the basic qualifications. For a full explanation of this option please see the Qualification Standards. Basic Requirement:

Degree in entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology.

A combination of education and experience courses equivalent to a major that included course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
