Duties

Help
  • Receive, authenticate, and vet visitors entering an installation.
  • Respond to and/or contain crisis or urgent situations including accidents; man-made, biological, chemical, radiological, or natural disasters; or other incidents that could result in harm to people, property, or the environment.
  • Control access to the installation/Federal property and restricted areas, identify security risks, and provide traffic management.
  • Apply requirements for equipping and securing government and contractor facilities to guard against unauthorized access, identify suspicious activities, and ensure continuity of operation.
  • Operate security-related equipment (both manual and automated) or devices.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable T-3 level personal background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for the NCIC, National Crime Information Center, terminal
  • Must maintain requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56, The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment drug test and then annually through random testing thereafter.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts which may include fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability).
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Must successfully complete the security guard training program.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • Must not have any medical conditions preventing the wear of the chemical mask if required. May be required to wear personal protective equipment including chemical mask
  • Must pass the initial physical ability test (PAT) within the first 30 days of employment and pass the annual test thereafter. The PAT consist of 19 pushups in 2 minutes and run 1.5 miles within 17:30 minutes.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in operating electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must meet requirements under 18 USC 922(g)(9) (The Lautenberg Amendment); and sign the DD Form 2760 (Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition).
  • Must be able to perform as a member of the installation overall security response capability. Duty and training required is to carry and deploy riot baton, carry a protective shield, and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • "May" be subject to a two year probationary period unless I have previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized experience is defined as 1 year experience with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization performing installation access control, using physical access control equipment, safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets, recording visitor information, and determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed equivalent to the next lower grade/position in Federal Service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

This is an open continuous announcement for Security Guard positions located at Fort Sill. Initial cutoff will be February 20, 2020 and thereafter as needed. Recruitment will continue through the announcement closing date to fill positions as they become vacant. Applications are valid for 90 days in the system. Applicants must reapply every 90 days to remain active.

Competition for Security Guards is restricted to veterans with preference by law as long as such applicants are available and those current non-preference security guards previously selected when preference eligibles were not available. Those Veteran's with no preference (not covered by the exception) or a non-Veteran may only be selected if there are no preference eligibles to select from.
