We work throughout the agency and beyond to drive leading edge corporate strategy policy initiatives and play a pivotal role in enabling NGA's customers to achieve their desired outcomes. We are seeking dynamic Public Affairs Officers to join us in this exciting work. Duties and responsibilities: * Conduct public affairs activities, including media relations, interviews, content development, subject-matter expert preparation and training, etc., in support of NGA strategic goals and the agency mission to ensure internal and external audiences receive timely, accurate and relevant information. * Serve as agency spokesperson for media relations and community outreach initiatives to advance NGA's public affairs needs; adhere to internal information security policies. * Develop regular and recurring content consistent within NGA public affairs standards and in line with Associated Press standards for print and broadcast journalism. * Respond to non-FOIA requests for interviews and agency-related information. * Maintain NGA's unclassified web presence and social media platforms to ensure timely, accurate and relevant content is communicated to target audience. * Develop communication campaign plans that support NGA mission goals and objectives.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. All employees are subject to a periodic examination on a random basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Refusal to take the examination may result in denial of access to Top Secret information, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs.
Employees with SCI access and who are under NGA cognizance are required to submit a Security Financial Disclosure Report, SF-714, on an annual basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Failure to comply may negatively impact continued access to Top Secret information, Information Systems, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs.
NGA utilizes all processes and procedures of the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Non-executive NGA employees are assigned to five distinct pay bands based on the type and scope of work performed. The employee's base salary is established within their assigned pay band based on their unique qualifications. A performance pay process is conducted each year to determine a potential base pay salary increase and/or bonus. An employee's annual performance evaluation is a key factor in the performance pay process. Employees on term or temporary appointments are not eligible to apply for internal assignment opportunity notices.
This position is a DCIPS position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1601. MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Experience as a public affairs professional in a corporate environment. 2. Demonstrated experience writing in Associated Press style for internal and external publications, including public Web content, social media and internal communication platforms. 3. Demonstrated experience in communication planning, including identifying strategic outcomes, developing communication metrics, target audience analysis and implementing all tactical aspects of communication planning. 4. Demonstrated media relations experience, including development of themes, messaging and subject matter expert training, interactions with public news outlets and media professionals. 5. Demonstrated experience identifying newsworthy elements and accurately and succinctly communicating in writing those elements in news, news releases, and feature articles in a journalistic style using the Associated Press guidelines. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications or a related field. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, plus experience in the provision of communications strategies, activities, tactics, and advice to agency leadership, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C. Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience in the provision of communications strategies, activities, tactics, and advice to agency leadership, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired:
1. A degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or a graduate of the Defense Information School Public Affairs Course.
2. Experience in SharePoint and Web development.
3. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, photography and graphic design.
4. Experience editing journalism products for content, style, grammar and punctuation.
5. Experience related to the Department of Defense, the U.S. Intelligence Community and national security issues.
6. Experience developing organizational strategy, policy and crisis communications.
