This Health Physicist (Radiation Safety Officer) (HP/RSO) position is located at the Edward Hines, JR., VA Medical Center. Hines employs the use of a wide variety of radioactive materials and radiation producing equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes and for biomedical research.

-Implements Radiation Safety Programs for two installations.
-Obtains and maintains NHPP permits that authorize the use of radioactive materials at both installations.
-Establishes and implements written policies and procedures for all aspects of the radiation safety programs.-Handles complex patient, employee and public radiation safety issues as a technical expert.
-Conducts, directs and interprets the results of complex radiation surveys.
-Provides direct radiation safety support for each clinical therapeutic case utilizing a radiopharmaceutical or sealed radiation source.
-Evaluates tests, procedures, reporting mechanisms to ensure proper radiation safety measures are in place.
-Manages the personnel dosimeter programs.
-Ensures proper use of radioactive materials.
-Manages material inventories, training, instrument calibrations, packaging and surveys.
-Prepares reports on the status of equipment, handling, storage, disposal, and decontamination of radioactive materials.
-Develops control programs for difficult situations or environments.
-Trains personnel in specialized requirements.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
