As a Deputy Science Center Director (Interdisciplinary Supervisory Geophysicist/Hydrologist/Chemist/Geologist) within the Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Assist the Science Center Director in the ongoing day-to-day operations of the Science Center by providing support in areas of personnel management, facilities management, workforce planning and diversity, employee safety, financial and budgetary planning, and strategic science planning.
Works with the Center Director on a wide spectrum of supervisory responsibilities, including direct supervision of projects and personnel.
Provides authoritative advice to the Center Director to promote and implement organizational, management, policy, and science goals and objectives.
Serves as liaison to the Quality Management Systems (QMS) implementation team, QMS Manager, and QA Specialists and participates in all aspects of QMS to foster coordination, resolve QMS issues, and promote QMS implementation within the Science Center.
Writes, reviews, and/or edits administrative and scientific reports on the geological, geophysical, and geochemical methods and results developed in support of research and assessments of non-fuel minerals commodities.
Operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver.

In addition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Examples include:
Experience in planning, developing, and conducting oversight of scientific programs; supervising research, technical, and/or non-technical staff and managing resources in the coordinated conduct of multiple scientific activities. Serving as a senior expert involved in physical scientific work for which technical problem definitions, methods and/or data were highly incomplete, controversial, or uncertain and whose evaluations and recommendations were accepted by others as those of a technical expert in the physical sciences. At this level, supervisory scientists typically represent an authoritative source of consultation for other scientists and program specialists, are called upon to resolve issues that significantly affect science programs, make long range and controversial proposals and defend their findings and recommendations in public or high-level forums.
