Cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing floors. Making minor repairs such as cleaning clogged drains, changing air filters, tightening screws, bolts and doorknobs. Servicing railroad passenger coaches both inside and out, including; cleaning windows, cleaning toilets and assisting in pumping out sewage, cleaning seats, floors, sinks and removing trash. Packing, unpacking, moving, arranging and storing furniture, materials and equipment. Assisting journeyman with railroad track repairs using basic hand and power tools. Performing and assisting in making repairs to buildings and equipment, including; plumbing, HVAC and electrical. Performing general grounds maintenance, including; mowing, weed whacking, edging, shoveling snow, operating snow plows and snow blowers. Moving heavy objects, furniture, supplies and equipment. Routinely lifting and moving objects and materials weighing 40 pounds. Occasionally lifting and moving objects and materials weighing 50 or more pounds.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is used by maintenance workers in constantly reaching, bending, turning and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 80 pounds while loading or unloading trucks. Also, requires muscular effort in feet, leg, eye and arm coordination in braking and steering, in coordinating the use of clutch, shift lever, accelerator and hand controls. This job requires a great deal of walking, bending and stooping.
Working Conditions: The position is exposed to work in all kinds of weather extremes and temperatures. Drives in all types of weather and traffic conditions. Maybe required to perform operational maintenance such as changing tires, wheels and making emergency road repairs. Subject to noise vibrations, gases, fumes, dirt, dust; from operating various power hand tools and equipment. You will be required to work around heavy equipment in a variety of hazardous conditions while performing maintenance duties.
