Collects, assembles, prepares, and disseminates information through the print and/or broadcast media, provides information concerning the various programs of the Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO). Plans, coordinates and produces presentations and press conferences. Coordinates outreach to attract celebrities as guest speakers, starters and entertainers for various events. Produces media guide and writes articles for race programs and other written material, such as runner’s newsletters. . Serves as liaison to sister services, Headquarters Marine Corps, and base Public Affairs Offices.
Writes and edits articles, organizes information, and serves as Production Editor. Produces camera-ready copy using desktop publishing software. Writes press releases for base/local newspaper and trade publications; reviews and tracks publications for information dissemination and coverage. Maintains press release and press clips files and photo morgue. Organizes, tabulates, and manages primary research data for surveys. Enters survey data and produces reports. Assists in communication and promotional requirements, including developing press conferences and production, exhibits, brochures, calendars, and posters. Plans, organizes work, and manages internal procedures and resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies. Prepares financial plan and related records and reports and exercises authority on approved budget. Monitors programs on a regular basis and initiates corrective action to ensure support of operating programs of MCMO. Develops long-range plans for event promotions. Sets up interviews for management to include TV, printed media and blogs. Works closely with sister services to receive assistance during large events.
Effectively supports the Marine Corps Equal Employment Opportunity policies, and ensures compliance with fire, safety, and other environmental issues.
May be required to travel to attend MCMO races, meetings and expos to promote races and events by attending other race expos to set up booths with MCMO race materials to promote MCMO race series by handing out MCMO materials, speaking to runners about MCMO races and events, and soliciting vendors to participate in races. Prepares for MCMO races and events by setting up cones, tents, start and finish lines and other race requirements. Observation of race practices by attending other races within the running industry and learning how they prepare, plan and execute races and upon return implement race practices and procedures at MCMO races. May be required to stand for extended periods of times at expos handing out materials and speaking with runners and vendors about MCMO races.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observe safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must possess valid driver’s license.
EVALUATIONS:
Three years’ experience in marketing, public affairs, communications, journalism, or a related field. Knowledge and skill in developing written and printed materials. Skill in orally transmitting information, and printed materials. Skill in the use of personal computers and associated software. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required. OR A Bachelor’s Degree preferably in the area of public affairs or public and community relations. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the qualifications above
