This Fish and Wildlife Biologist position acts as the Coordinator for the Central Valley Joint Venture (CVJV), a self-directed coalition consisting of 19 State and Federal agencies, private conservation organizations and a regulated utility provider with the common goal of providing for the habitat needs of migrating and resident birds in the Central Valley of California.
The majority of the Venture's activities have local, state, and regional importance and influence the National Wildlife Refuge System, other Federal land management units, State agency management areas, non-governmental organization protected areas, private lands, Farm Bill legislation, land use/land protection policies, and ecosystem management in the region.
Some specific duties include:
-Leading the Joint Venture's strategic planning, biological planning, accomplishment tracking, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, and providing leadership to integrate the biological objectives from various bird conservation plans into Joint Venture projects.
-Developing long-term habitat conservation partnerships on a landscape-scale to meet joint resource objectives and integrated migratory bird habitat management, and establishing operational procedures that currently do not exist to ensure successful and long-term implementation of these partnership efforts.
-Coordinating development, implementation and evaluation of habitat conservation activities and new conservation initiatives with a variety of non-governmental organizations within the Joint Venture boundary (e.g. FWS Partners for Fish and Wildlife, National Wildlife Refuge System, State Wildlife Grants, NRCS Wetland Reserve Easement Program, North American Wetlands Conservation Act Grants etc.).
-Providing assistance and advice to partners for enhancing joint venture activities and linkages with other migratory bird programs on local, state, regional, and flyway landscape scales.
-Ensuring environmental compliance on North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant applications from private foundations, and state, Federal, and nongovernment organizations with an interest in migratory birds and/or the Central Valley Joint Venture region.
-Working closely with the Chair of the JV Management Board, members of the Board and JV Committees, and advising various ad hoc or standing committees and task forces dealing with migratory bird conservation issues at national and international levels.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
