The purpose of the work is to plan and conduct a Congressional Liaison program at the Hampton VA Medical Center (VAMC). The incumbent is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective relationships with Congressional Offices, Veterans Service Officers and other community stakeholders, Veterans, media, employees, and the public.

The incumbent directs the Hampton VAMCs Congressional Liaison Program. The integral part of the Communications Team and reports directly to the Medical Center Director. The incumbent often represents the Medical Center Director, participating at public, civic, or social events to improve the perception of the Hampton VAMC as a valued part of the medical profession, government and community. The incumbent acts as a spokesperson for the Medical Center in dealing with members of Congressional Offices, VA Central Office (i.e; Office of Medical Inspector, Office of Inspector General), Virginia Division of Veterans Affairs, as well as other local and state government offices. Receives all incoming inquiries related to patient care, benefits, or other queries. The incumbent is responsible to communicate events, activities and issues related to health care provided by Hampton VAMC. Serves as the resource person to all staff members in the area of public relations.
