As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
  • Coordinate all official aspects of Regional Office communication and media relations programs. Functions as the official means of informing the press, specific groups or the general public of HUD's activities and goals, as carried out in the (jurisdiction) Area.
  • Work collaboratively across HUD to execute a modern social media program, drive engagement, audience growth and conversation across all HUD social channels.
  •  Evaluate web and social media analytics to determine the effectiveness of outreach programs and to make recommendations for changes in approach.
  • Research, analyze and reports reach, feedback and reaction of the engagement with the media, event participants and/or online communities.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. This position is located in the Office of Field Policy and Management (FPM). FPM supports 55 Field Offices and provides organizational leadership to Regional and Field Office Directors. The Office develops mechanisms which ensure critical field program delivery issues are addressed; assess program impacts and customer service at the local level; and provide operational feedback designed to constructively influence program design and Departmental policy-making.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience is experience at the GS 13 level or equivalent that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as ALL of the following:

• Experience producing and communicating information/ideas to the press (newspaper, television, radio, etc.) via written, oral, or social media.
•Experience sourcing news stories, features and opportunity/educational pieces to the press.
• Experience with laws, legal codes, and government regulations.
• Experience establishing and maintaining effective liaisons with local, state and federal government entities.
•Experience writing speeches.


Time-in-Grade:
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment:
Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
