Physical Demands: While much of the work is sedentary, the incumbent is regularly required to conduct on-site trainings and evaluations that include some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces in hot, dry, or humid environments; bending, crouching, stooping, or other such moderate physical activity; and boating in rough water. Average strength, agility, and coordinate are required. Long days afield require considerable stamina. Heavy lifting may be required on an infrequent basis. Frequent travel, often internationally, is required.
Work Environment: The work requires both office and outdoor activity. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Frequent travel of several days duration by various means of surface and air transportation is required to attend meetings and to conduct field work. Inclement weather (e.g., rain, cold, heat) will be encountered on some of the field trips. The incumbent is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow employees, or property with which entrusted. Operation of motor vehicles is required. Temperature and weather extremes are encountered outdoors. Employee is expected to perform duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, follow workers, or property.

1. Skill in developing and implementing conservation plans that include resource inventory, management strategies, objectives, implementation, and ongoing evaluation.
2. Ability to design and implement statistically valid biological monitoring programs and share the results of research findings.
3. Ability to use or direct the use of GIS to develop spatially-explicit conservation objectives and monitor progress toward those objectives.
4. Knowledge of bird research techniques.
5. Knowledge of advanced principles, concepts, theories, and methods of conservation biology and related sciences with emphasis on ornithology and migratory bird populations.
