The social scientist is responsible for developing and/or conducting applied social science research including research associated with visitor experiences, visitor satisfaction, visitor perspectives, and socioeconomic monitoring. The incumbent will recommend ways to improve understanding of visitor experiences using current social science resources and methods, design and conduct interdisciplinary, cross-divisional projects to apply scientific information to planning and management decision-making.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: The majority of the work is sedentary, requiring normal physical strength and agility. Typing at a computer keyboard is required. Periodic meetings with representatives of the park management team or branch chief from various divisions will occur. The work may require some travel within the park and to outdoor areas. While in the field, the work may be require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, and occasionally lifting moderately heavy items.
Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed indoors in a sedentary office setting. Work may be performed outdoors in all types of weather. The incumbent may be exposed to unfavorable conditions in field, including remote, backcountry locations and inclement weather.
