This position is being filled under the Expedited Hiring Authority for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Health Care Occupations.

About the Position:

  • This position is located with the US ARMY Medical Activity, Inpatient Nursing Services, Psychiatric Nursing Unit, Fort Riley, Kansas.
  • The new IACH, $347M facility opened October 2016. Now a 47-bed facility, IACH is working to expand services with a total of 6 OR's and 2 Endoscopy Rooms. Additionally, IACH will add Sleep Lab services in the near future and an in-patient behavioral health unit. With over 900 babies delivered a year, our Women's Health is proud to be a high-5 for mom and baby.

  • This position does not provide guaranteed work hours each week, and work will be assigned on an intermittent "as needed basis."

  • This position is a temporary position and may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years.
  • Duty to include working any of the 3 shifts on a regular basis to include weekends and holidays.

Duties

Help

As a Psychology Technician, you will:

Perform intake and ongoing mental status evaluations for inpatient clients to determine mental, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Perform group and individual practical counseling and education for clients with psychological conditions.
Review and collect information from personal interviews, medical records, and medical personnel to obtain a thorough clinical history.
Assist professional staff with providing direct and indirect care to psychiatric inpatients in the assigned ward.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Duty may include rotating, intermittent, and shift work to include weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience Required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized experience is defined as: Interviewing patients to obtain medical history; analyzing patient information; and administering and scoring psychological tests. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

Education: One-half year (9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare, Counseling (ex. crisis, substance abuse, mental health, chemical dependence), Family and Community Services, Behavioral Science, Human Development, Social Work, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling or is directly related to the work of the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
