Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center serves more than 105,000 Veterans in Central Florida and includes a 120-bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliaries (60-beds located at the Lake Nona Campus and 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), three large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin campus), Viera and Daytona Beach, and four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Orange City, and Tavares. The new medical center at Lake Nona is open for outpatient and inpatient services and will continue to expand inpatient beds, Emergency Services, and other specialty services throughout 2017. As VA's newest state-of-the-art health care facility, Orlando's 65-acre medical campus encompasses 134 acute inpatient beds, providing complex Medical/Surgical/Mental Health specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, and a large multispecialty outpatient clinic.

The incumbent serves as a professional engineer of the Chief, Facility Management Service and advises medical center management on engineering problems and solutions involved in the modification, improvement, maintenance and operation of a large multifaceted medical center, geographic separate clinics and Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Prepares designs, design calculations, contract drawings and specifications for contracts and station labor. Prepares detailed cost estimates for the use in obtaining funding and bid evaluation. Prepares correspondences, technical reports, status reports and schedules incidental to preparation, constructions and inspections of projects. Makes inspections and consultations with the contractors to resolve complex unforeseen problems and latent conditions developing during construction, which often requires change orders and drawings and specification changes. Reviews the work of architect-engineer firms to ensure compatibility with existing conditions and VA guidelines. Prepares space survey reports and space requirements utilizing the Department of Veterans Affairs space survey computer system. Coordinates and assists Medical Center staff in the formulation of short and long range facility plans.
